Ontario hopes new legislation prevents on the road accidents

The recent passing of the Making Ontario’s Roads Safer Act will go a long way in ensuring that Ontario roadways are among the safest in the country.

In an attempt to prevent motor vehicle accidents and related injuries and deaths, the act will do the following, plus more:

— Increase penalties for distracting driving. The current range for such a crime is $60 to $500. New laws will call for fines ranging from $300 to $1,000.

What is the new framework to keep novice drivers safe?

Novice drivers often make mistakes on the road that cause an accident, leading to serious injury or death. For this reason, many countries are looking into ways to help beginner drivers to improve their skills in an efficient and effective manner.

Ontario steel company worker killed in forklift accident

An accident at a steel company in Mississauga claimed the life of a male employee, according to reports. The incident, which involved a forklift, occurred around 9:30 a.m. on March 23. Responding to a medical emergency, rescue personnel from Peel Region arrived and declared the 62-year-old employee dead. The medical emergency, however, was actually a work-related accident, a representative for local law enforcement officials stated.

One killed, three hurt in Ontario accident

An Ontario woman lost her life in a multi-vehicle crash south of Exeter on March 4. Authorities said three other people were also injured in the accident.

According to police, a Jeep Wrangler was traveling north on London Road, also known as Highway 4, between Kirkton Road and Crediton Road when it crossed the centre line shortly after 6 a.m. The Jeep sideswiped an oncoming Toyota Solara then smashed into a southbound Chrysler Intrepid head-on. Deadly crash kills 1, injures 3 in Ontario

On Feb. 20, a two-vehicle accident that claimed the life of a 35-year-old man occurred on Highway 17 in northern Ontario, according to a report. Three other individuals who were involved suffered injuries and were hospitalized.

According to the police, the crash happened about 15 kilometres west of Marathon when a vehicle travelling westbound on the highway failed to negotiate a curve and struck the guide rail. The disabled vehicle, which became lodged in the guide rail, was also partly in the roadway.… Continue Reading

Fiery Ontario collision kills 2, injures 2

A three-car accident in Ontario resulted in the deaths of two people on Jan. 27. The accident occurred just before 7 a.m. on Highway 6 in Mt. Hope.

A spokesperson for Ontario Provincial Police said that a Volvo driven by an 18-year-old man crossed the centre line and struck an SUV travelling in an opposing lane. The Volvo caught fire after the collision. A third vehicle crashed into the SUV and the Volvo, and all three vehicles spun sideways away from the site of that collision.… Continue Reading
