To expect the unexpected, we purchased home insurance that serves to protect our property from fire or theft. However, there are certain events that nobody seems able to prepare for.

Some insurance claims could result from bizarre events that seem very unlikely to happen: A ram head butted a policyholder and knocked out one of his teeth; a homeowner was shocked to find that cows had invaded his garden and climbed into his pool; A policyholder accidentally burned several hundred dollars of cash he had left in an envelope; a chocolate fountain exploded leaving the carpet with molten brown stains.… Continue Reading

Tricked Into New Car Purchase by Cheap Car Insurance Quote

Our thanks to Mr. Eric Lai of the Toronto Star’s Wheels section for allowing us to participate in his article regarding a reader who was tricked into buying a new car on the basis that cheap car insurance would accompany that specific brand/model of car.  The PDF version of the article is here.

Some of the options referred to in Mr. Lai’s article include:

complaint against the insurance company and their employee can be filed with FSCO (Financial Services Commission of Ontario); the buyer can ask OMVIC to investigate the dealership’s actions here as contrary to theCode of Ethics – see Sections 4, 6 and 9 – which govern dealerships, pursuant to theMotor Vehicle Dealers Act, 2002; and the buyer could have considered starting a lawsuit in the Ontario Small Claims Court.

Hellenic Canadian Lawyers’ Association Update

The Hellenic Canadian Lawyer’s Assocation (HCLA) held their 2010 President’s Dinner recently and our George Bougadis, former HCLA President (2004 to 2006) was in attendance.

The HCLA continues to be an important association allowing members to give back to the community.

As one example, the HCLA is running a free legal clinic for the community, providing quality legal advice to the community. This will be through the Greek Community of Toronto Social Services.
